Loser of the Week -

Eyes!!

So many skincare products can unintentionally damage our eyes and eye area.  Retinols can be a common cause of eye dryness and irritation.  Even when trying to apply it with the greatest of caution retinoids can slip into the eye area and over time cause irritation, dryness, and redness. Usually this can be relieved by changing the application area or retinol or discontinuation of the product.

Sunscreens are another common culprit- that being said - the irritation is usually noticed immediately due to stinging and burning. Some filters are worse than others and some are affected by this more than others. My best recommendation for those with sensitive eyes is either using a mineral sunscreen or a specific sunscreen made for the eye area.

Last but not least, even more commonly lash serums can also be a cause of many issues around the entire eye area and eyes themselves.  From iris color discoloration and darkening (most common in light colored eyes) to orbital fat loss over time, some lash serums should be used with great caution. Darkening of the iris can be permanent in many cases.  Orbital fat loss can give the appearance of sunken eyes and dark circles. These serums can also cause dry and itchy eyes.  The ingredients in lash serums to be on the lookout for are also, sadly, the most effective ones are growing long lashes fast.  These belong to a group of ingredients called Prostaglandins (made popular first in the hot selling product Latisse).

This group of ingredients includes the following:
Isopropyl Cloprostenate
Bimaprost
Dechloro Dihydroxy Difluoro Ethylcloprostenolamide

The key is to look for “PROST” in the ingredients.  The only real alternative is lash serums that use alternatives to prostaglandins, which are also usually not as effective.  Nice alternatives include peptides.  The Ordinary Multi Peptide Lash & Brow Serum is a nice option.

About the Dogs

This past weekend was full of adventures for our furry friends at the cabin! Lincoln and Ike had an absolute blast, even though Ike had a little hiccup with his shoulder. We spent most of our time chasing away mosquitoes—uufta! Lincoln took full advantage of the great outdoors, rolling around in the dirt and swimming in the lake. His joyful splashes and muddy escapades were a sight to behold, and he loved every minute of it.

Ike, on the other hand, had a vet appointment where he was fitted for his new shoulder brace. Unfortunately, he’s not a fan of it just yet and has been showing his disdain in typical Ike fashion. Meanwhile, Gabby is chilling at home, clearly unimpressed with the rainy weather we've been having. She prefers sunny days and isn't too thrilled about being stuck indoors. Despite the rain, she’s making the most of her downtime, waiting patiently for sunnier days ahead.
