Winner of the Week - Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy can help skin is many different ways-
Increased Collagen Production Anti-inflammatory Reduce appearance of sun damage | Wound healing Help improve skin texture and tone |
In addition to all the benefits of red light therapy, blue light therapy can be beneficial for acne prone skin types by killing bacteria below the surface of the skin. The biggest factor with light therapy is being consistent with the treatment- using it daily or at least 5-6 days per week for at least ten to thirty minutes is necessary. There is a variety of masks and light panels worth trying. Even some tanning salons offer this as a service. That being said, be careful of the Infrared Light Settings on the face - infrared light can make hyperpigmentation worse.
Loser of the Week - Apeel
Apeel is a new type of fruit and vegetable preservative and it creates a plant-based coating for fruits and vegetables to help extend their shelf life. From some studies this can extend the life of Avocados from 1 month to almost 5 months- but is this preservative really good for people? How much nutrition is left in a 5 month old vegetable? The sneakier thing about this is that this preservative can be in fruit unlabeled and considered “Organic.” This preservative has made for some interesting videos- bendable watermelon, bouncing rubber blueberries, and crisp-less apples. At this point I’m not sure this preservative is a good thing for consumers or for diets, though the FDA considers it to be a safe additive…

Gastroparesis Awareness Month is August
If you aren’t familiar with Gastroparesis it is a disorder that delays emptying of the stomach despite there being no physical blockage. Stomach muscles and nerves responsible for moving food through the digestive tract are not functioning properly, and this disease can range from mild to extreme in some circumstances. For many people it can become debilitating and impact their life in many ways. This disease has many possible causes- diabetes, surgery, medications, and infections, and for some people there is no known cause.
