No BS Bulletin 32
Thirty Two
Welcome to Issue 32 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!
I hope you’re all enjoying the last few weeks of September! This week’s edition is packed with some intriguing beauty news, updates on new skincare launches, and, of course, our giveaway winner announcement. Whether you’re here for the juicy beauty news or the dog antics, there’s a little something for everyone!
We’re diving into some big topics this week, from the rise of influencer-driven skincare routines and their potential impact on young audiences, to New Jersey’s attempt to reverse a long-standing sunscreen policy. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s too late to turn over a new leaf and protect your skin after years of sun exposure, you’ll want to read the feature on the effects of sun neglect. Plus, find out why "natural" beauty products might not always be as sustainable as you think.
I took it easy on the shopping front this week (Cameraman will be pleased), but there are still a few products that have caught my eye. Check out the “New Beauty Products I’m Excited to Check Out” section for some items that are making their way onto my radar for future testing.
And as always, we can’t forget the dogs. They’re doing great and loving the last of the summer sunshine. Lincoln is back to his digging, Ike is glued to Cameraman’s side, and Gabby is basking in the calm now that summer’s hustle and bustle is winding down.
Finally, huge congrats to this week’s giveaway winner, Shauna B.! You’ll find all the details on how to claim your prize in your inbox. And Elaine B., don’t worry—though your location is outside of the U.S., we’re working on a prize we can ship to you soon!
Thanks for tuning in, and as always, happy reading!

About the Dogs
The dogs are doing great and really making the most of the final weeks of summer. Lincoln is back to his favorite activity—digging in the backyard. It's like he's on a mission, and every day brings a new excavation site for him to explore. His energy is contagious, and he seems to be thoroughly enjoying the warm weather.
Ike is his usual lovable self, sticking close to Cameraman and constantly angling for extra snacks or meals. His routine is simple but consistent, and he’s made it clear that he plans to soak up every bit of attention while the weather is still nice. Gabby, meanwhile, has been relishing the relative calm, happy to have a bit more space to herself. With the boys occupied, she’s been lounging around and enjoying the quiet moments, although she does love the occasional car ride. All in all, they're happy, healthy, and making the most of the last days of sunshine!
Winner of the Week - Pycnogenol
Pycnogenol is the trademarked name of a natural plant extract derived from the bark of the French maritime pine tree known by the inci name Pinus Pinaster. This ingredient has many functions for the skin and I’m excited from using a couple new products I recently purchased containing the star ingredient.
First and foremost, it functions as an antioxidant. It contains proanthocyanidins, which are antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals which therefore results in less aging and oxidative stress. Because of its antioxidant benefits it can offer some protection against the damaging effects of UV radiation. It may help prevent sunburn and protect the skin from the long-term aging effects of sun exposure. That being said, don’t forget your sunscreen!
Secondly it helps protect and enhance collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins for maintaining skin elasticity. Protecting collagen will lead to smoother, firmer skin.
Third, there are some studies that suggest Pycnogenol can enhance the skin's ability to retain moisture. This benefit is extremely helpful for those with dry skin or those who live in a very dry part of the world.
Pycnogenol even has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin, reducing redness and calming skin irritations such as eczema.
Last but certainly not least, some say Pycnogenol can also help brighten skin by reducing hyperpigmentation and giving skin a more radiant appearance. If these are enough reasons to consider Pycnogenol, check out my list of favorites below!

Loser of the Week - Sculptra
Sculptra - now before you get to thinking I’m telling everyone not to use Sculptra keep reading! I am not saying, “don’t use sculptra” but instead I just want everyone to be fully aware of this treatment and the risks involved before deciding to do it. Most people will probably be able to have this treatment without any issues.
Sculptra filler is injectable and is designed to fill wrinkles and reduce hollow, sunken cheeks. Sculptra is a biostimulatory filler, which means that it stimulates the patient’s body to make its own collagen.
If you are thinking of having this treatment done I want you to be aware of the risks involved. If you are thinking of doing this, please be sure to have a dermatologist or esthetician you trust perform this! Also ask for before and after photos from THEIR clients.
Sculptra is still very new and long term results 15+ years down the road have not been established yet. I have also read about many patients having an allergic reaction to sculptra (usually on the second treatment). Most notably, once sculptra is injected there is no way to remove it or to track where it goes in the face and body.
These are my main concerns - if you are considering it just be sure to do some research on this treatment before you decide to do it. It is also important to note, most people have this treatment done and are happy with it. I do worry about some of the people that have had this performed and have a reaction. Once injected it cannot be removed. I believe using a highly educated provider is going to be the biggest factor in your results. They will know who is the best candidate and how to properly use the product.
