No BS Bulletin 33
Thirty Three
Welcome to Issue 33 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!
This week’s Juicy Beauty News covers a wide range of topics, from new innovations in natural emollients to the surprising mistakes people make when applying sunscreen. We’re also diving into the rise of K-beauty in the UK and the importance of better regulation in certain beauty treatments.
On a more personal note, it was a pretty tame week in terms of beauty purchases, but we’ve still added a few essentials to the stash. Don’t worry, though—bigger hauls are on the horizon!
The dogs are easing back into their routines, and Lincoln is especially relieved that the scary beeps are gone thanks to Cameraman’s genius solution for my LED light therapy mask. Speaking of which, LED LIGHT THERAPY takes the spotlight as our Winner of the Week—a skin-transforming treatment that’s gaining popularity for its anti-aging and acne-fighting benefits. On the flip side, the Loser of the Week is hard water, which can wreak havoc on your skin and hair, as I’ve experienced firsthand.
Don’t miss the In Case You Missed It section for all the latest videos, and of course, this week’s giveaway winner is Laura C.! Congratulations, and thank you to everyone for being a part of the No BS Beauty community!

Don’t tell Cameraman!
About the Dogs
Lincoln has always had an aversion to beeping sounds—whether it’s the microwave or a random gadget, even the faintest beep sends him into a fit of trembling and hiding. We’ve never quite figured out why beeps are his kryptonite, but it’s been a constant challenge in our household. So, how does this relate to skincare, you might ask? Well, it became a real issue when I invested in a Red Light LED Mask about a year ago. The mask, which is supposed to help with everything from fine lines to acne, unfortunately beeps not just once but multiple times: when I plug it in, turn it on, and even when I choose between red or blue light modes. Needless to say, Lincoln was not a fan.
Because of this, I’ve barely been able to use the mask without sending poor Lincoln into a state of distress. I thought I might have to give up on the mask entirely—until Cameraman came up with a genius solution. He managed to open up the device and remove the speaker (shown below), effectively silencing the dreaded beeps. Now I can use my LED mask whenever I want, without scaring Lincoln half to death.
It’s a win-win! I get the skincare benefits I’ve been waiting for, and Lincoln gets to keep his peace of mind. Finally, I can make the most of my LED mask without worrying about a mini dog panic attack every time I turn it on!
Winner of the Week - LED LIGHT THERAPY
Most of you have heard and read about Red Light Therapy (RLT) Photobiomodulation. I would also guess that many of you have tried this therapy in one form or another. RLT is a promising treatment for skin and overall health. It was first studied by NASA and was also used by Navy Seals for its benefit of speeding up wound healing. These days there are multiple types of LED products- from wands, panels and masks to LED “sleeping bags,” this treatment is showing up everywhere! Even tanning salons are offering this treatment, which is about a 180 from sunbed tanning, and also somewhat ironic in my opinion.
Most people can benefit from LED therapy in one way or another. If anti-aging isn’t your main concern do you get breakouts? If so, checking out Blue Light Therapy might be beneficial for you. Blue Light Therapy has been researched and shown to help fight bacteria within the layers of your skin. Treating with Blue Light can help fight acne, pimples, and even help with blackheads.
New research is also showing that a spectrum called Near Infrared Light (NIR) can help lessen pain in the body and tissues resulting in it being used to help with pain management. I can personally say that my dog has benefited from NIR treatment on an injured shoulder. The vet has a top-notch Light Laser Therapy Device.
Per Celluma’s (manufacturer of LED devices) Website, “LED light therapy may help smooth skin texture, improve skin firmness and resilience, increase lymphatic system activity, restore skin’s natural cellular activity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyperpigmentation. The treatment is for all skin types, and is non-ablative, non-invasive, painless, and requires absolutely no downtime.”
At this point we are just at the beginning of a very exciting new type of healthcare treatment and it will be exciting to see where this technology goes next!
Loser of the Week - Hard Water
I am very aware of the effects that hard water has on my skin and hair! Where I live we have a well on our property that is the source of all our household water. About 4 months after we moved in I started to notice my skin becoming increasingly dry, itchy, and flaky. I would try different lotions and potions and nothing really helped quench that agonizing itch! On top of that, my hair would feel tangly and dry no matter what hair products I used. I finally realized one big difference from our previous house to the new house - the source of the water!!!! In the City of St. Paul water was softened and treated. In my new house the water was coming right from the ground and not treated or softened.
After about 6 months we finally installed a water softener and within just a few days I could literally feel the difference on my skin! I could actually get out of the shower and go on with my day without applying two or three layers of lotion! The constant agonizing itch finally went away.
Nowadays I can instantly tell when the salt in the softener is out.
If you are someone who deals with some of these skin issues (itchiness, flakiness, dryness) checking your water might help find a culprit. These days there are also many options to treat and/or filter just your shower water, some options are below:
