No BS Bulletin 35

Issue Thirty-Five

In partnership with

Welcome to Issue 35 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!

This week, we’ve got a fantastic lineup of skincare news, product recommendations, and, of course, the latest updates from the pups. In Juicy Beauty News, we dive into some hot topics, like the resurgence of beef tallow in skincare, which some are calling "nature's Botox." We’ll also explore the latest in AI tech with the SkinChange.AI app, which promises to help detect changes in skin conditions, and take a look at why dermatologists are urging caution around popular trends like mixing sunscreen with moisturizers. Plus, find out why the FDA just approved a laser system for long-term acne treatment and the story of one woman’s journey after her obsession with tanning beds nearly cost her life.

Curious about what I bought this week? You’ll find a mix of skincare serums and even a few festive holiday advent calendars. Let’s just say it wasn’t my heaviest haul, but I still managed to snag a few deals! As always, Cameraman might not be thrilled, so let’s keep this between us. 😉

Our About the Dogs section includes a bit of excitement (or trouble?) with some unexpected wildlife and a sudden surge in ticks. Lincoln, Ike, and Gabby have all been keeping busy and recovering from last week’s adventures. In our Winner of the Week, we highlight the skincare benefits of Exercise and why a post-workout cleanse is so essential. And on the flip side, our Loser of the Week covers the hygiene hazards of Display Testers in stores and why it’s probably best to skip those free samples.

Finally, don't miss our In Case You Missed It section for some video recaps, including my beauty room organization series, my top sunscreen picks for fall, and a weight-loss journey update.

We’re especially excited this week to be hosting a DOUBLE giveaway! Carolyn V. and Nicole B., you’re our lucky winners! Check your emails—whoever responds first gets the first pick of the prizes. A quick note to last week’s winner, Brian M.: check your inbox, too, as we’ll be selecting a new winner if we don’t hear from you soon.

Thank you for joining, and stay tuned for more skincare, beauty, and giveaways in the No BS Beauty community! 🌟

New Goodies:  2024 Advent Calendars!

I personally love advent calendars - these are a fun way to celebrate the season as well as try some new goodies and find potential winners for you to use in 2025.  I thought I would highlight some of the advent calendars I’m most excited for (but for best deals wait to purchase until Black Friday)!

About the Dogs

This week, we were suddenly hit with a surge of ticks. After barely seeing any all summer, it's like they've come out in full force this past week. Unfortunately, all three of the dogs had their run-ins with these pesky little critters, with Lincoln racking up the highest tick count. Between tick-checks, the dogs have kept us busy making sure they’re staying healthy and protected.

As if that wasn't enough excitement, there’s been a bit of wildlife drama in the yard lately. A sleek black cat has been making surprise appearances, slinking around as if it owns the place, driving Lincoln absolutely crazy. To top it off, a whole pack of turkeys has been strutting through the area, gobbling away, adding even more temptation for him. With the ticks, the cat, and now the turkeys, Lincoln’s had his paws full this week!

Ike had an adventure of his own and ended up needing a bath after getting into a less-than-ideal situation. He’s all cleaned up now and, despite his little mishap, is back to his usual self, content and enjoying the attention.

And Gabby’s big news is that she’s bounced back from her recent UTI! Thanks to her antibiotics, she seems to have made a full recovery and is back to her usual, spirited self. It’s great to see her thriving again, happy and ready to join her brothers in their latest adventures.

Winner of the Week - Exercise!

Exercise is great for people for many reasons, including skin health! Be smart about it though- cleansing after sweating is going to be important to noticing these benefits. A major benefit from exercise is increased blood flow, which is important for nourishing cells. This is the same reason exercise is beneficial for the heart. Increased blood flow means our heart and lungs are getting more access to oxygen as well as vital nutrients.

Improved blood flow also helps the body process toxins and waste from the body and the skin. Exercise is great for stress reduction and stress is a factor when it comes to aging as well as certain skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, and perhaps even acne.

Some studies have also shown that those who maintained an aerobic exercise routine appeared younger than those who didn’t. So maybe that 30 minutes a day of exercise can turn the clock back several years?! That being said, be sure to cleanse skin after working out to prevent breakouts and other skin issues from appearing.

Loser of the Week - Display Testers!

Using “Display Tester” products directly on your skin is something I was aware probably happened but I am still always in shock when I hear or see people actually doing it.  After reading this post on Reddit I have also become weary of any product that is in-store without any seal on it to secure the product.  It seems like people “often” take products off the store shelves, take them out of the packaging, test them out, and then put them back in the box on the shelf!

There are many communicable diseases that can be spread through the use of testers and some skin bacterias as well.  After reading this post I don’t even want to use the tester on my hands, lol!

Occasionally I still find products that don’t use any seal or tamper-safe packaging.  One brand that I hear about tampering with often is Truly.  I wouldn’t recommend buying their products in stores… then again… I wouldn’t ever recommend buying their products.  If you don’t know why google “Truly Organic Class Action Lawsuit” for more information!
