No BS Bulletin 37

Thirty-Seven

Welcome to Issue 37 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!

In this week’s Juicy Beauty News, we're sharing some of the most talked-about topics in skincare. We have stories covering everything from why 12-year-olds are using anti-aging products to the unseen risks of counterfeit beauty items. There’s also fresh research on the effects of mineral deficiencies on skin conditions, and an in-depth look at innovative skincare tech—like the new LED mask designed to boost deep skin elasticity. Plus, we’re seeing big beauty brands go premium online with offerings like Estée Lauder’s virtual foundation tool debut on Amazon.

On a lighter note, the shopping list in What Did I Buy This Week? is shorter than usual, but packed with interesting picks, including some Target finds I can’t wait to try.

Cameraman’s Corner makes its debut this week, with him taking on the enormous task of organizing my beauty room. He’s thinking about building a system to keep track of it all (fingers crossed)! His first video on the project is up now on my second channel. Pop over to see how it all began and give him a warm welcome.

In About the Dogs, Ike, Lincoln, and Gabby had a mellow week, sticking to their usual routines, while my sister-in-law’s dog, Lucy, finally returned home from the hospital. She’s enjoying a bit of freedom in her meals and treats, though her decade-long grudge against Cameraman remains as strong as ever!

This week’s Winner of the Week is I Support The Girls, an inspiring nonprofit providing essential items to women and girls in need. Meanwhile, the Loser of the Week takes a closer look at the buccal fat removal trend and the potential long-term effects many people aren’t considering.

Check out if you're this week's Giveaway Winner—we have some fantastic goodies ready to go! Dive in and enjoy!

Made Me Laugh

Juicy Beauty News

👀 What did I buy this week?👀

Don’t tell Cameraman!

About the Dogs

This week was a regular one for Ike, Lincoln, and Gabby, who each stuck to their usual routines. Lincoln has been happily digging in the backyard, Ike has stayed loyal as ever, following Cameraman around for treats and belly rubs, and Gabby has been enjoying some well-deserved relaxation after her recent health scare.

On the extended family front, Lucy, my sister-in-law’s dog, had a bit of a rough patch and ended up in the hospital. Thankfully, she’s back home now and seems thrilled to be on an unrestricted diet again! Interestingly, Lucy is one of the only dogs who doesn’t get along with Cameraman. She’s held a grudge against him for years, ever since he made an offhand comment about her appearance over a decade ago. Lucy has never let him forget it and barks at him anytime she sees him—even now! But, all in all, it's been a good week, and we’re grateful to have everyone, including Lucy, happy and healthy.

Winner of the Week - I Support The Girls

A Non-Profit Organization called “I Support The Girls”

Since 2015 this is a group that helps women and girls who are in vulnerable circumstances who have been displaced due to homelessness, natural disasters, domestic violence, poverty, pandemics and more. They go to great lengths to help people maintain their dignity during unforeseen circumstances. They are able to make use of items some people and charities may consider “trash” such as clothing (sports bras, other clothing other charities might not take). After losing weight the last couple of years I was able to make a sizeable contribution to help out their clients. I cannot stand the thought of things being thrown away when they have many years of life left to live!

Loser of the Week - Buccal Fat Removal

The buccal fat pad is one of several encapsulated fat masses in the cheek. It is a deep fat pad located on either side of the face between the buccinator muscle and several more superficial muscles. Having it removed has become a bit of a trend over the past several years.

Making sweeping statements and generalizations is usually not ideal, but I really want to urge people to think twice before certain procedures and treatments. Buccal Fat Removal (BFR) has become trendy and gives instant gratification, however, thinking years down the road is as important as today. There are dozens of before and after pictures online giving people hope that this quick and rather “affordable” surgery can be the answer to a more chiseled face and appearance.

Many people are finding out that later in life the BFR ends up aging them more dramatically. As we age we tend to lose fat and elasticity in our faces and some that have had BFR end up extremely unhappy- some even go to the length of describing their aging faces as “hollow.”

This quote from u/euno123 on reddit sums it up:

•“YES! I got my buccal fat removed when i was 20. I’m 28 now and I’m experiencing mild sagging and jowls so i have to get filler now to lift those areas. It sucks. I will also probably have to get a facelift now when I’m in my 40s. I know it sucks having big cheeks but it makes you look youthful and they will naturally get smaller as you age. If you really want to do the procedure, please just get a reduction and not a complete removal”

Other thoughts on BFR from u/Aromatic-Armadillo98:

“Maybe it won't medically harm them, but they will look older quicker in the long term. Some thin people do naturally have hollow cheeks but still have youthful essence that declines naturally like everyone with age. Look at Lorry Hill Margot Robbie plastic surgery analysis video to see how bf removal looks on a thin frame.”

Many people recommend trying Botox in the Masseter muscle before considering BFR. Botox in the Masseter can give the appearance of a thinner face and for some people give the same look as BFR without the long-term potential aging effects. We are always our own worst critics so this is important to remember. Most of the loved ones in our lives appreciate what we look like regardless of the amount of buccal fat we have or don’t have.

Cameraman’s Corner

Cameraman is taking over my second channel to give you all a peek into his project to organize my beauty room! While he’s not on camera, he’s behind it, voicing over each step as he tackles the (daunting) task of getting all my skincare, makeup, and tools in order.

He’s thinking of creating a database to help keep track of everything, which might just save me from buying duplicates—fingers crossed! Check out his first video, and be sure to subscribe if you’re interested in more updates on this beauty room transformation. Show him some love and join us for the journey!
