Fifty-three

Welcome to Issue 53 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!
This week’s Juicy Beauty News has some big developments, from Lush proving the eczema-fighting power of one of its best-selling body creams to France banning PFAS (“forever chemicals”) in cosmetics by 2026. Meanwhile, AI’s role in the beauty industry continues to grow, and India is becoming an undeniable force in the global beauty market. Plus, the slow beauty movement is gaining traction, with spas focusing on mindfulness and ritual over rushed treatments.
Over in What Did I Buy This Week?, it’s been a NIOD-heavy haul—because let’s be honest, I can’t resist when there’s new products to try. From Copper Amino Isolate Lipid to Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist, I grabbed a few high-tech formulas I’ve been meaning to try. Also, Hello Sunday’s SPF 50 Glow Primer caught my eye, so we’ll see how it holds up in my routine.
In About the Dogs, the pups have been loving the warmer temps this week! Lincoln barely wants to come inside, Gabby has been running with the big dogs, and Ike… well, Ike has been sneaking my food when I’m not looking. Gotta love him.
For Winner of the Week, I’m diving into supplements—a topic I was once skeptical about, but I have to admit, I’ve changed my mind. While I still roll my eyes at some influencer-endorsed “miracle” supplements, there are some that actually have solid scientific backing. I’m sharing the ones I personally take and why I think they might be worth considering.
On the flip side, Loser of the Week goes to… dental work. Because, really, what could be worse than a root canal, fillings, and knowing you STILL have more to go? My teeth may be getting healthier, but my patience for sitting in the dentist’s chair is wearing thin.
Finally, a huge congrats to this week’s giveaway winner, Celeste B.! 🎉 Be sure to check your email to claim your prize. And Shihua X.—we’re still waiting to hear from you! Check your inbox ASAP so we can send out your goodies.
Enjoy the issue, and stay tuned for next week’s giveaway! 😊

About the Dogs
This week, the dogs have been much happier with temperatures finally nearing the 50s! After weeks of freezing weather, they’re soaking up every second of this mini spring preview. Lincoln, in particular, is loving it—he hardly wants to come inside and has been spending as much time as possible outside, sniffing around and enjoying the fresh air.
Meanwhile, Gabby is still feeling fantastic! She’s been keeping up with the big dogs and showing off her playful side, which has been so great to see. And Ike? Well, Ike has taken advantage of my distractions and has been sneaking my food whenever I’m not looking. He may be the oldest, but he’s still got plenty of tricks up his sleeve when it comes to getting extra snacks. 😆

Winner of the Week - Supplements
In the past, I’ve been highly skeptical of what are often marketed as “beauty supplements.” To be honest, I still am. However, I’ve come to recognize that some supplements may be worth exploring for yourself.
Take biotin, for example—I’m still not a huge fan. Unless you have a biotin deficiency, most of what you take is quite literally flushed away down the drain. I am still shocked that some influencers were cashing in by selling kiwi seed supplements for acne (eye roll)… That being said, newer research is emerging on advanced supplement technologies, and some are backed by solid scientific evidence.
As someone who was once firmly opposed to beauty supplements, I’ll admit—I was wrong. Over the past several years, I’ve incorporated several supplements into my routine. Some are skincare-related, while others support overall health and lifestyle. I’ll be sharing a full list of what I currently take and my goal with taking them.
Before deciding to add any supplements to your routine it is important to discuss this with your health care provider since some supplements may contradict some health conditions and prescription medication. One supplement I recommend everyone research is Heliocare, which is a brand selling the herb Polypodium Leucotomas (also known as Fernblock). It has been scientifically shown in several studies to help protect your skin from sun damage. I have been taking this supplement every morning for over ten years. I highly urge you to check it out for yourself.
If you are a nerd like me, here are some studies discussing Polypodium Leucotomos:

Loser of the Week -
Dental Work 😩 (And It’s NOT Over Yet...)
This week, the true loser is me—because I’ve been stuck dealing with dental work, and the worst part? It’s not even over yet. A root canal, fillings, and that constant, nagging pain that refuses to go away. Just when I think I’m done, I get the lovely reminder that I still have more work ahead. I know it’s necessary, but at this point, I feel like I should be earning frequent flyer miles for the amount of time I’m spending in the dentist’s chair.
The worst part? The discomfort doesn’t just end when I leave the office. The soreness, the random zaps of sensitivity, and the joy of avoiding one entire side of my mouth while eating—it’s like a never-ending dental saga. And let’s not even talk about the dread of going back for even more work. The drilling, the numbing shots, the sound of those awful tools—ugh. If I could fast-forward past all of this, I absolutely would. For now, I’ll just be over here, cautiously sipping lukewarm drinks and hoping I don’t accidentally chew the wrong way. 😩🦷
