No BS Bulletin 38

Thirty-Eight

Welcome to Issue 38 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!

This week’s edition is packed with some truly intriguing stories and updates. In Juicy Beauty News, we’re diving into a wide range of topics that show just how dynamic and complex the skincare world is. From a 102-year-old revealing her simple, science-backed skincare tips to the surprising benefits of light and laser therapy for alopecia, this week’s roundup promises insights that span generations and innovations. We’re also spotlighting new reports about influencer marketing regulations, the dangers of fake beauty products, and why some sunscreen ads are facing backlash for their messaging.

As for my shopping cart this week, let’s just say it was another "don’t tell Cameraman" kind of week! A few gems from Target and Sephora made it into my collection, and I couldn’t resist some tempting beauty deals.

In About the Dogs, it’s been a cozy, happy week for Ike, Lincoln, and Gabby, each embracing the crisp fall days in their unique ways. And, of course, Cameraman has made more strides in organizing the beauty room with a few new additions—more details in Cameraman’s Corner.

This week’s giveaway winner is Matthew WP! 🎉 Congratulations! Make sure to check out the full newsletter for all the details and updates on recent winners.

About the Dogs

This week, the dogs have been making the most of their cozy fall days. Ike has been quite the kitchen helper, happily assisting with the cooking process and enthusiastically licking the dishes clean to ensure they’re spotless. It’s safe to say he’s earned himself the title of the official taste tester!

Lincoln has taken the opportunity to enjoy some extra sleep-ins, relishing the slower mornings and the peacefulness of the season. Meanwhile, Gabby has been all about spending quality time with the family, lounging on her favorite dog bed and soaking up every bit of affection from everyone around. All in all, it’s been a week filled with simple joys and happy pups.

Winner of the Week -

This week's winner is a bit unconventional compared to past newsletters, but I have been so impressed I can’t hold back!  Over the years I’ve probably subscribed to over a dozen different beauty boxes, but none as of late have impressed me as much as the Dermstore Beautyfix Box has!

The past few months have treated subscribers to many full size products and even from what I consider more “prestige” brands such as Allies of Skin, Medik8, Olaplex, and Elta MD.  It takes a lot to impress me with brand selection but I have been blown away the past few months.  I’m not a big fan of the company that currently owns Dermstore, but this beauty box has me hooked at the moment!

Loser of the Week - Milia

Have you ever noticed a few little white dots on your face?  Ever noticed tiny white spots around your eyes?  You may be familiar with milia!   Milia, also called “milk cysts,” are caused by a protein called keratin that gets trapped under the skin. Milia are small cysts that look like tiny white bumps on the skin. Even though they look like whiteheads, they are not acne. Unlike acne, they don’t develop in a pore and are not red or inflamed.

Milia can have a variety of different causes, generally milia are most commonly spotted on newborn babies, but people of all ages can experience milia.  Milia is trapped protein cells (keratin) when skin doesn’t exfoliate or shed like normal.  Sometimes there is nothing you can do to prevent this from occurring.  No specific known cause of millia exists, but it is more likely to happen when:

  • Skin damages from rash, injury, or the sun

  • Genetic or autoimmune conditions are present

  • Aging: The skin loses its ability to shed skin cells in older adults

  • Blistering- skin that is blistered is more prone to milia

I have even noticed milia myself occasionally after using heavy face creams that are extremely thick and occlusive.  Milia is stubborn and most dermatologists will tell you not to remove it yourself.  Milia can dissolve on its own but sometimes it can take months to years for this to happen.

If you are prone to milia there are a few recommendations that may keep it at bay.

Retinol and exfoliants may help with skin cell turnover and help prevent milia from appearing as well as working to gently and slowly remove them.  Timely chemical peels can also be beneficial for those who often experience milia.  Using gentle cleansers, light face creams, and sunscreen can also be helpful to prevent the occurrence of milia.

Thankfully milia is harmless, but can be aggravating to deal with due to its stubborn nature.

In Case You Missed It

Cameraman’s Corner

In this week’s Cameraman’s Corner, there have been some exciting updates! Cameraman has been hard at work setting up the beauty room, and he’s now created a playlist on my second channel where you can follow all the progress. Recently, he put up a monitor and a mount to hang a scanner, taking the organization to the next level. On top of that, a friend is going to help build a database to keep track of all the products—something that will make managing inventory so much easier.

Make sure you’re subscribed to my second channel and don’t forget to show Cameraman some love with a like! Your support means the world to both of us as we continue this big project.

Giveaway - The winner is Matthew WP.

Congratulations to this week’s giveaway winner, Matthew WP! 🎉 We’re excited for you to receive your beauty goodies, and an email is on its way with all the details for claiming your prize.

We also heard back from last week’s winner, Tracy Y., and Cameraman will be sending out her prize very soon. Thank you to everyone for participating, and keep an eye on your inboxes for future giveaways and updates. Your continued support means everything to us!
