Welcome to Issue 46 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!

In this week’s No BS Beauty Bulletin, we’re starting things off with a useful hack I just learned—Cameraman was asking me about this, and I had no idea until now! It’s too good not to share, so I thought you’d enjoy it too. 😊

We’re also diving into Juicy Beauty News with some thought-provoking stories, including how Gen Z is redefining Dry January into a full lifestyle, the latest anti-aging supplement trends, and why dermatologists are debunking the hot water pore-opening myth once and for all. Plus, a new prototype sunscreen promises to cool your skin as it protects—sounds like something we all need to keep an eye on!

In the What Did I Buy section, I’ve picked up a few intriguing finds this week (don’t tell Cameraman!) that I can’t wait to test out, including some hydrating skincare goodies and a long-awaited Trendmood box. If you’re as curious about product innovation as I am, make sure to check out this week’s “New Products I’m Intrigued By section. From CeraVe’s new fragrance-free shampoos to a cooling LED facial mask, there’s so much to explore in the beauty world right now.

The dogs have been enjoying a peaceful week. Ike is still loving his new doggie bed, while Lincoln and Gabby have fully embraced the winter vibes—stay tuned for all the cozy details in this week’s “About the Dogs.”

And don’t miss this week’s Winner of the Week, where we’re diving into the growing popularity of Hypochlorous Acid and its skin benefits. On the flip side, the Loser of the Week reminds us why inflammation and “inflammaging” are buzzwords for a reason—our skin health reflects so much about our overall well-being.

Ready to dig in? Let’s get started!

Cameraman was just asking me how to do this! I didn’t know this trick so I thought I’d pass it along 😊

About the Dogs

This week, we’re thrilled to report that nothing new happened with our furry trio—and we couldn’t be happier! After last week’s scare with Ike, it’s been a relief to settle back into a calm and uneventful routine. Ike is still doing great and is loving his new doggie bed, which seems to be his favorite spot for long naps. Both Lincoln and Gabby seem to be enjoying the peace and quiet too. Sometimes no news really is the best news, and we’re embracing this stretch of normalcy with open arms! 😊

Winner of the Week - Hypochlorous Acid

Hypochlorous acid is gaining popularity after being made “famous” by the Sephora-sold skincare brand Tower 28. The Tower 28 Beauty SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray with Hypochlorous Acid launched at Sephora a few years ago and the ingredients list is quite simple, it contains only three ingredients and hypochlorous acid is the featured ingredient. Selling at $28, there are some slightly more affordable alternatives for this “miracle” ingredient I’ll link to below.

Many skin issues may benefit from the use of hypochlorous acid ranging from acne to rosacea. Hypochlorous acid has antimicrobial and antibacterial benefits for skin. The acid also has anti-inflammatory and potential healing benefits for skin which means it can also help balance the skin’s natural microbiome. This makes it extremely beneficial for many skin issues.

Hypochlorous acid is easy to fit into any routine, it can be used as an overall face mist, a spot treatment directly on blemishes, or patted onto skin after cleansing. If you have tried everything else for breakouts or rosacea with no luck I think this ingredient is well worth a try.

Products with Hypochlorous Acid:

BRIOTECH Topical Skin Spray, Hypochlorous Acid Spray at Amazon
(sold & shipped by Briotech)

SkinSmart Facial Cleanser for Acne, Targets Bacteria at Amazon
(sold by Simple Science LLC)

Loser of the Week -
Inflammation / Inflammaging

An article from the BBC (linked above) explores the connection between skin appearance and aging, revealing that the relationship may be more significant than we realize. Skin health and appearance could serve as predictors of overall health.

The Baltimore Longitudinal Study found a correlation between skin appearance and overall physical health. Specifically, individuals who look older than their chronological age may face higher risks of health issues, suggesting that skin appearance and condition reflects internal well-being.

The concept of "inflammaging" describes how damaged and aging skin contributes to systemic inflammation. Inflamed skin may release chemicals that accelerate overall aging and increase the risk of age-related diseases.

According to the article, the best way to slow or prevent these effects is to care for your skin. This includes keeping the skin hydrated through regular moisturizing and protecting it from environmental damage, such as UV exposure. Do you have any thoughts on this article? I’d love to hear them!

New Products I’m Intrigued By:

Skinfix Exo + Ectoin Retinol-Alternative Intensive Skin Barrier Repair Baume
at Sepora
Growth factor cream that also contains ectoin, arnica. Vitamin e, and melon exosomes.

Shark Cryoglow Cooling & LED Facial Mask at Shark
This is a new red light mask that also has the ability to cool (and hopefully) and reduce puffiness around the undereye area.  This mask has blue, red, and infrared light settings.  If you suffer from melasma be cautious with the infrared light!

The INKEY List Ectoin Hydro-Barrier Serum at Sephora
Another serum featuring ectoin!  This serum also features some nice hydrating ingredients such as panthenol, jojoba esters, oat kernel, and ceramides.

CeraVe Gentle Shampoo at Walmart
This looks like a rather gentle and fragrance free shampoo that might be good for those with sensitive skin or looking for a shampoo without any scent.

CeraVe Dandruff Shampoo at Walmart
Another shampoo that is a fragrance free dandruff shampoo. In the past I have tried a handful of dandruff shampoo products but was not a fan of the variety of medicinal scents these products contained.  This looks like a much better option, and seems like it might be a good option for those who suffer from fungal acne requiring Pyrithione Zinc to help treat it.
