Don’t tell Cameraman!

About the Dogs

This week was mostly uneventful in the best way—but the big excitement came when Cameraman finally mowed the grass for the first time this spring. Naturally, Ike took his role as “supervisor” very seriously, following along like he was personally responsible for lawn maintenance. Lincoln, on the other hand, was not thrilled about the noise and spent most of the time looking mildly panicked from a safe distance. And Gabby? She couldn’t care less. As long as she has her cozy spot and a snack or two, the lawn could be on fire and she’d still be unbothered.

Winner of the Week -
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world, but its severity and fatality depend on the type.

How Common Is Skin Cancer?

  • Over 5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.

  • 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.

  • More than 2 people die of skin cancer every hour just in the U.S.

Types of Skin Cancer (and How Dangerous They Are):

  1. Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)
    Most common type.

    Grows slowly and rarely spreads.

    Rarely fatal if treated early.

  2. Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)

    Second most common.

    Can spread if left untreated.

Roughly 2,000 deaths per year in the U.S.

  3. Melanoma

    Least common but most deadly.

Can spread quickly to other organs.

Causes over 8,000 deaths annually in the U.S.

Early detection has a 99% survival rate, but late-stage survival drops drastically.

Key Prevention Tips:

  • Wear sunscreen daily (SPF 30 or higher).

  • Avoid tanning beds.

  • Get annual skin checks.

  • Watch for new or changing moles using the ABCDE rule (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving).

Sephora also has their annual Sun Safety Favorites Set.  Proceeds from sales of the kit go to the Sloan Kettering Research Center.  The kit can be seen and purchased here

Loser of the Week -
The Worst Skincare Brands that Cost the Most Money & Have the Least Value

Before I dive into anything, let me say this loud and clear: if there’s a product you love and it works for you—keep using it! I will never shame someone’s holy grail. Skincare is personal, and what works for one person might not work for another. So if you’ve found your magic in a jar, bottle, or tube, don’t let anyone talk you out of it.

That said, here are my thoughts.

There are definitely skincare products out there with hefty price tags that are 100% worth every penny. These are the formulas backed by science, clinical testing, and truly transformative results. On the flip side, there are products that cost a small fortune—but when you dig into the ingredients, it’s hard to see where your money is actually going.

Some skincare ingredients are naturally expensive to source, refine, or formulate. Others are widely available, incredibly effective, and cost just pennies per use. The luxury tier of skincare often includes ingredients that are rare, labor-intensive to extract, or simply indulgent for the sake of experience. Think: caviar, gold, diamond powder, white truffle extract, bee venom, human growth factors, and high-purity bakuchiol. These ingredients come with serious price tags—and in some cases, serious benefits like collagen stimulation, firming, or deep hydration.

But there are also fantastic ingredients that are far more budget-friendly. Things like niacinamide, glycerin, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), shea butter, and green tea extract. Many of these are found in both drugstore staples and high-end formulations—and they work.

When Is the Price Justified? Understanding ingredients is key. Once you get familiar with what’s inside your products, it becomes easier to tell whether a high price tag is justifiable or just marketing.

Here’s how I personally break it down:

Expensive—but in my opinion, not worth the markup: La Mer, Tatcha, Dr. Barbara Sturm, 111SKIN, and Chantecaille.  These brands lean heavily on aesthetic appeal and luxury positioning. And while they’re not “bad,” they often use common ingredients at luxury prices.

Expensive—but more justifiably so: SkinMedica, SkinCeuticals, Augustinus Bader, and Calecim.

These brands incorporate high-potency actives, growth factors, patented complexes, or serious clinical backing. For me, these feel more like investments than indulgences.

At the end of the day, it’s your skin and your call. If something works for you—regardless of price—go for it. Just try to make sure your decisions are informed. Learning to read ingredient lists and understand what you’re actually paying for is one of the most empowering things you can do in your skincare journey.   Luxury can be fabulous—but so can function.

HI there, really love Your channel/Thank You very much. I am looking for a video for someone like me who uses Tretinoin and Retinaldehydes in Remedy/who is looking for NON Growth Factor and NON exosome serums/antioxidants/etc without any SILVER like Allies on Skin/non fragranced. Thank You for considering making such video.

Thank you for your comments! I love this question, I am going to cover it in my newsletter. I have a few suggestions for you to check out.
1.  The NIOD Survival 0 Serum.  This is a great antioxidant serum that doesn't contain any of the ingredients you mentioned.  It contains some nice brightening and protecting ingredients such as superoxide dismutase, tomato, astaxanthin, and pycnogenol.  This is fragrance free.
2.  The RevivSerums Telomerase 6 in 1 Corrective Serum. This one is a little on the pricey side, but it is 1.7 Ounces so larger than the average serum.  This one is great for anti-aging and uses several peptides such as Matrixyl 3000, Snap 8, and Argireline.  It also contains a lot of amino acids for barrier repair and hydration.  It has a really nice gel texture and fits into routines pretty nicely.  This one is fragrance free. Use Discount Code NOBSBEAUTY7 for an additional discount on your order!
3. Theramid Derma - Peptides 35% Multi-Peptide Treatment
This one is a great anti-aging serum that they just recently updated with a few new peptides.  It has a nice lotion texture and can be used morning and/or evening.  This one will be nice for skin with deep set wrinkles as well as fine lines.  It is also great for wound healing and soothing skin.
