No BS Bulletin 73

Seventy three

Welcome to Issue 73 of the No BS Beauty Bulletin!

This week’s newsletter is coming to you a little lighter than usual - hopefully things get back to normal soon! Lots of noise, dust, and every piece of furniture seeming to have a new home each day, things are definitely in chaos around here. The dogs are just trying to figure out where their food bowls will end up next. Ike has also been searching high and low for any potential food scraps left behind.

Even though it’s a smaller edition this week, I still wanted to check in and share a few updates with you. Thanks for sticking with me through the madness — I promise things will be back to normal (and hopefully much calmer!) soon.

Winner of the Week -
New Korean Labelling Laws

Recently, TikTok users were freaking out, claiming that SKIN1004 had secretly reformulated their “holy grail” sunscreen. Funny enough, what they were really seeing was the result of new amendments from South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) to the Enforcement Rule of the Cosmetics Act, which governs how cosmetic products are labeled and regulated.

We’ve all been guilty of jumping the gun online without doing enough research… but come on, let’s not panic a third of the internet before checking the facts!

For years, SKIN1004 marketed their Centella Ampoule as “100% Centella extract.” Those of us who follow skincare closely always suspected that wasn’t literally true, since products require preservatives to stay stable and safe for years on the shelf.

That’s why the new labeling law is so important. It ensures that all ingredients must be listed, which protects consumers who may have sensitivities or allergies - especially to preservatives, fragrances, or botanical extracts. In other words, the change was made for the benefit of consumers, not to sneakily alter formulas.

So, if you notice that the packaging of your favorite K-beauty product looks different, don’t panic. It’s most likely the result of new labeling requirements, not a reformulation.

Loser of the Week - Naked Sundays

Ah yes, the trophy goes to Naked Sundays Collagen Glow SPF 50 — because nothing says "worth the hype" quite like suspicion of sharing its DNA with a sunscreen that flunked its SPF lab test.  I have not been able to confirm with Naked Sundays that their sunscreen may not be an actual SPF 50, however, rumors are spreading that this is the case.

Several Redditors are stating this is, in fact, the case:  “I understand that Naked Sundays CG SPF 50 is rumored to be the same base formula as the Ultra Violette Lean Screen SPF 50 that Choice tested at SPF 4-5.”

That “rumor” is no small potatoes. Lean Screen’s SPF result of 4–5 from Choice starkly contradicts its label claim of 50, which is a massive fail from a trusted benchmark. If they truly share a formula, it’s not just shady, it’s sun protection malpractice.  Sharing a base with a sunscreen that drastically underperformed in SPF tests is a major red flag.

When your "Holy Grail" pick comes with uncertainty over its protective power, confidence crumbles.  Even if you’re indoors most of the day and wear hats and shades, sunscreen is your first line of defense.  There are thousands of sunscreen options out there, if you are still using Naked Sundays Collagen Glow I highly recommend putting it on pause until more information is revealed.

Comment of the Week

@marybonome9279 - Pinned on the 5 Products If I Could Only Use for the Rest of my Life-
“Ty Sarah! You are spot on re: Skinmedica TNS - good product- annoying pkg.!I haven't tried the less expensive version but I'll finish it up and then maybe? 😂😂 What about mineral sunscreens? I'm in search for the perfect Untinted Mineral ss.I like the Ulta MD - SPF 46- it's green and helps reduce Redness.”

@nobsbeauty Congrats- you are the Comment of the Week! I will be discussing this in my newsletter for next week. I cannot believe for an almost $300 product there are so many packaging flaws that they haven't fixed yet. For mineral sunscreens I enjoy a few of these:

Have you tried any of these before? These tend to be some of my favorites, Elta MD is also wonderful.
